Baby,

March 14, 2008

Some days I’m so ready to meet you and others I want to keep you to myself. These are nine short months I have you all to myself, and we will never have them back. I will miss your kicks and rolling reminders that you are there, safe and sound. I’ve waited so long for you, for these moments, that it will be hard to share you with the world.

But at the same time, there is so much I want to show you, and I know there is so much you want to show and teach me.

Still here… still pregnant…

February 29, 2008

but getting ready!

My bag is almost completely packed,
Bag is packed the freezer is filling up,
Freezer is filling up
I’m washing diapers and baby clothes,
Diapers and Clothes
and am trying to take as many naps as possible while I still can ;)
Only 5 1/2 more weeks to go until my due date! We do still have this mess to deal with:
Need to put together
but those things don’t have to be done before the baby arrives anyway, except for the car seat, since the baby will be in our room for at least the first three months.

I’ve been knitting a bit, but have definitely slowed down lately. I finished these shorties out of purewool (click on the pic for more details):
Picky Pants Shorties
and the baby surprise, which I love. I still need to sew on the buttons, but other than that, it’s finished:
Baby Surprise
I thought the pattern was wonderful, although this page of notes was VERY helpful.

Right now I’m knitting up a pair of baby socks and another pair of shorties, this time striped. Every time I do stripes, I complain about how much I hate them, but they look so darn cute even though they take three times as long.

Sick and Pregnant

February 13, 2008

Nothing like being sick and pregnant… Guess it’s better than sick and tired of BEING pregnant, which I’m certainly not (yet). I guess I was due, as I haven’t been sick in over a year, but I’ve been sick for the past week with a nasty cold. I’m sure the baby really appreciated all the coughing, but *finally* I’m feeling better. Everything’s going well with the pregnancy. I passed my glucose screening a few weeks ago, and now I’m just anticipating the group b strep check I have in 4 weeks. We have our last Bradley class tomorrow, will have the hospital tour next weekend, and then the breastfeeding class on March 3rd. Things are falling into place!

The baby shower in Ohio last weekend went well. It was small, with just family attending which was nice, and my mom and sister were amazing and got us the car seat and cloth diapers we needed! BUT, the best part of the shower?

Shower Cake
The cake. I’m not a big cake fan, but mmmmmm…. from my favorite bakery of all time now called Ele Cake Company (was Woody’s baker in West Carrollton, then A Taste of Elegance in Miamisburg and now they’ve moved back to the former Woody’s location and are called Ele Cake Company). Sure, I gained 4 pounds in two weeks, which I largely attribute to the four pieces of cake I had last weekend (and the delicious Mexican food, Donatos pizza and the lunch buffet at Amar India), but it was worth it… drool… Here are the rest of the pictures from my shower in Ohio if you’re interested.

I’ve been working this past week on freezing a few meals before the baby gets here, so hopefully we’ll have a nicely stocked freezer come April. So far, I’ve frozen stuffed green peppers plus an extra bag of filling for another batch, 2 packages of cooked ground turkey to throw into spaghetti, a few cooked chicken breasts, and am planning on freezing a spinach pie and a broccoli quiche today. Also planned are more cooked ground turkey, sloppy joe filling, lasagna, turkey meatloaf, stroganoff casserole and shepherd’s pie. I found this site to be a great resource.

I even managed to get some knitting done. See?

Here they are finished, hanging out in the new car seat:

Shorties using the Picky Pants pattern, which Mountain Colors Twizzle. They’re a little floppy feeling, due to the silk content, I’m sure, but oh so yummy.
Shorties
And once I cast off for those, I immediately cast on for another pair out of my Purewool that arrived. It’s the Grove colorway, and I love the way they turned out. I will definitely have to jump on another Purewool co-op, soon!
Shorties

And, I also decided to knit up a Baby Surprise out of purewool, as well. Here is where I’m at so far:
Baby Surprise Jacket
Not too exciting to look at so far, but I’m about halfway through the pattern. Not sure how I feel about it yet, but I’m trying to get a size that the baby could wear at a year, since it’s not too cold here until pretty late in the season. We’ll see how it shapes up!

So far I’m really liking Lost this season… but Survivor, I’m not too sure about.

If you haven’t signed up for Paypal’s competition yet, leave a comment and I’ll refer you and you get $25 to spend (or deposit into your bank account) for free! :) You can only get the free $25 for the next two weeks though, so sign up now. Best of all, if you sell on Ebay or somewhere else, they don’t charge you fees to accept payments like paypal does.

Thursday rambling

January 31, 2008

Is everyone as excited as I am about Lost tonight? With this stupid writer’s strike I’m sick of Tivo only recording old episodes of Law & Order (which Jason has given the “thumbs up” to). Too bad I won’t be able to watch it until next Tuesday though! We have our Bradley class tonight, and I leave tomorrow morning until Monday for Ohio. My mom and sister are throwing me a small baby shower. Unless something unexpected arises, this will be my last trip until the baby is born!

I mentioned last post about knitting a pair of longies for the baby. Well, here they are:
Picky Pants longies
I don’t like how the Paton’s Classic Merino pooled and then striped for the legs, but oh well. They were a good practice pair.

I’ve since finished another pair in newborn size
NB Picky Pants
I used Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Worsted and really like how they turned out.

You can see we’re getting ready for baby’s arrival, too. That’s the co-sleeper my mom gave us at the shower last weekend, and I set it up the other day to see if we need to buy the leg extenders or not (we do). I wouldn’t say I’ve really started nesting yet (although I did just decide to wash the shower curtain this morning… does that count?), but it makes me feel relieved to know the baby will have somewhere to sleep! I do have lists everywhere though… of meals I want to freeze (spinach pie, lasagna, quiche– please baby don’t be lactose intolerant!), of things to pack in my hospital bag, of things we need to do (schedule an appointment with a ped, tour the hospital, etc), things we definitely need to purchase before baby arrives (a car seat, nursing bra and tanks, etc). Pretty soon I’m going to need a list of my lists just so I can keep it all sorted! LOL

Next on the needles? A pair of shorties from the Picky Pants pattern:
New pair of shorties
I’m using Mountain Colors Twizzle. I don’t know if wool/silk is a good choice for shorties or not, but they sure sound decadent to me and the yarn is so yummy. I’m currently waiting on a co-op order of Purewool, which I can’t wait to knit longies and shorties from!

Feeling lazy but still here

January 27, 2008

I’ve been feeling lazy this week, so here are my updates. I’m working on knitting up a pair of longies right now, but no pictures yet. I’m not really happy with how the yarn is pooling, but I’m going to consider them my practice pair.
Last weekend was my shower in Michigan, and I survived the flight :) Here are some pictures from it.

In my lazy stupor this week, I did do a bit of sewing, and managed to actually follow a pattern for the very first time. I made this little set:

Gnome Set

Before, however, I made this mistake (with other fabric, obviously):
Sewing oops
Oops…

And last but not least, here’s my latest belly shot, taken last week at 28 weeks.

It’s hard to believe I have less than 10 weeks left!

Becoming a boring blogger

January 10, 2008

I fully realize I’m becoming a boring blogger… what’s exciting to me right now, is certainly not exciting to the general public, or even the majority of the knitting community. After all, do most people get excited at the idea of an adorable cloth diaper or little wool covers for them? I do… It’s kind of crazy how cute cloth diapers are nowadays, but it’s easy to let it become an obsession. Here’s my stash of diapers so far.

There’s a whole world of cloth diaper-obsessed out there. Don’t believe me? Check out Diaperswappers.

Here are the wool covers (aka soakers) I’ve been working on. They go over either prefold diapers (the ones that look like big squares or the “old school” kind) or fitted diapers. They’re so easy to work up while watching a little tv, or the second season of Big Love on dvd, as I’ve been doing. The only problem with watching tv shows on dvd are that I’m SO disappointed when it’s over, and you have to wait so long until the next season comes out.
I’ve been experimenting with a few patterns: Little Turtle Knits Original Pattern, Punk Knitter’s Pattern, Little Turtle Knits Hybrid Rib. I still need to knit up a few pair of shorties and longies.

I’ve been freaking out a bit this week, as we don’t have any furniture yet for the baby, with the exception of this wardrobe, which we picked up at an antique shop here in Mooresville. As you can see, I already have it stocked with a few things. I love consignment and thrift store shopping! Almost all the clothes are from a local consignment or thrift store.
Baby's Wardrobe

Paddington and the rocking chair were Jason’s when he was a baby, and many of the books were either mine or his as a child.

I got a bug this morning to pull out the sewing machine, which I haven’t done since we moved down here. Here’s what I quickly worked up in a few hours.
Sewing projects

Two burp clothes (made out of remnants from Joann’s) and a ribbon snuggly –which is like a taggie blanket, but way less expensive ;). Now I just need to figure out how to wind the bobbin again… I’m so sewing machine stupid, it’s crazy.

Boy you’d think the baby was already here!

November 29, 2007

With my lack of posting… I really have no excuse, so I won’t bore you with apologizing. Jason and I finally got around to registering for the baby. Boy was that exhausting. A little bit fun, but a little bit weird, too. I’ve always felt weird “asking” people to buy us stuff, which is how registering makes me feel.

In crafty news, I’ve been attempting to hand quilt the crib blanket my dh’s grandmother pieced, and his mom put together for me. I don’t know if I’m doing it right, but I suppose the baby won’t mind if I’m not.
Crib Quilt
We didn’t register for any bedding, since I didn’t really see a purpose for it, so this will have to suffice. Most people tell you the bumpers aren’t safe to use anyway, plus the sets are ridiculously expensive! The only one I liked at Babies R Us was $200! I’d rather people spent that amount of money on the cosleeper we really want. Plus, that will give me the motivation to get the crib quilt finished. If I keep going at this rate, it will take me at least until the baby is born to get it done!

I’ve also been finishing up a few soakers I started a couple months ago
Soaker
Soaker
The first uses the pattern from Punk Knitting LJ, and the second from Little Turtle Knits (LTK). I just cast on for another last night using the LTK pattern.

We start our birthing classes tonight, which I’m kind of excited about :)
Marzipan wants to say hello, too.

Mini stockings everywhere…

November 9, 2007

Mini stockings

Today is your last day to sign up for the Handmade ornament swap! I joined two ornament swaps this year, so I decided to get a head start and start knitting. Only 8 more to go… Honestly, I’m so ready to be done with them… I have a bit of Christmas knitting to do and I have baby projects on my mind.

Speaking of baby, the ultrasound went well on Wednesday. Here’s a little peek:
18 weeks
We signed up for our Bradley birthing classes this week ~ they start in two weeks. I can’t believe it’s so soon!
