WIP Wednesday

April 28, 2010

Actually almost everything is really an FO and not a WIP, but oh well. All pictures link to Rav.

I just finished these board shorts for a customer from Mosaic Moon’s Coastal Sunset colorway. I love this colorway ~ it always knits up so perfectly. They’ll be in the mail either today or tomorrow to her.

I also knit up this Aviatrix hat out of Knitpicks Andean Silk. It was my first time working with the Andean Silk, and it was really nice. Eleanore immediately wanted to wear it, so I may have to knit one up for her, too, out of some bulky yarn.

I also decided to try dyeing up some yarn a few days ago. Here’s what I came up with.

I like how the skein on the far right came out the best; it’s on peace fleece, one of my favorite under-appreciated bases. I just traded for a few skeins of undyed purewool this past week, so I hope to try dyeing a few skeins of that up soon.

Right now I’m working on a pair of cabled shorties from solid Cestari in the Smoke colorway. I usually really like Cestari, but this skein is a bit odd~ it seems a lot “fluffier” and more loosely spun than other cestari I’ve used in the past. I know they’ve been super popular, thanks to the cloth diapering wooly knitters, and I’m wondering if that’s made an impact on their quality.

{this moment} – A Friday ritual. A single photo – no words – capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember.

WIP Wednesday

April 21, 2010

I haven’t shared some of my latest projects in a while, so I thought I would make a work in progress Wednesday post. All the knitting pictures link to my rav pages :)

I just finished these shorties for Eleanore out of Western Sky Knits peace fleece. I’ve been trying to knit her a few pair of elastic waist pants/shorts to hopefully make it easier to potty learn, although at this point, she has no interest really in the potty at all.

I also knit up this itty bitty pair of longies from Becoming Art The Pond colorway on bulky gaia. They’re so soft and thick and squishy.

Last night I started a pair of shorties for a customer out of some Mosaic Moon Coastal Sunset

I also felt like spinning this week, so I got out some targhee fiber Sarah from Tree Frog Knits sent me for a secret pal package and got to spinning.

I’ve almost spun up 4 oz, and still have 4 oz to go to make it a 2-ply. I love this targhee fiber, and wish more dyers used it.

And after making this doll quilt for Eleanore’s birthday, I’ve been wanting to sew her up a simple quilt, so I gathered up some of the vintage sheets and pillowcases I’ve been collecting from my thrift store trips and cut out some squares.

I’m going to back it with another vintage sheet I have, so I just need to pick up some batting.

Waldorf baby love

Eleanore LOVES her baby. She opened the box and immediately squealed, “Baby, hug!” and gave her a huge squeeze, then pulled back and said, “Hi baby!” I almost cried she was so enthralled.

Eleanore was SO excited to find and gather up all the eggs this year. It helps that she LOVES to eat eggs, so she kept chanting, “Egg! Egg!” the whole time.

Rainy days are good for painting

April 1, 2010

We’ve had a few rainy days lately (although yesterday and today will be gorgeous!), so I thought it was a perfect time to begin wet on wet painting. Eleanore insisted on no shirt, rather than the one I tried to wrangle her into.

She *loved* painting, so it looks like it will definitely be a frequent craft, especially on rainy days.
