Tissues Anyone?

March 30, 2007

I’m home sick.  Icky icky things going on at the plath house.  I feel as if I’ve been hit by a truck and then run over.  To top it off, I’m already extremely irritable from the fertility meds I’m on.  So, yes, I’m just a big joy to be around today.

But, I just want to thank my L&V Secret Pal for the great Loopy Ewe gift certificate.  It was the one thing that has made me smile.  :)   I can’t wait to spend it.

The terrible thing is I can’t even knit when I’m sick.  I think too much when I knit, and when I’m sick I just can’t stop thinking about how terrible I feel.  I’m a wreck.  I have been reading though, so I’ll be back soon when a review of the fantastic book I started last night.

Spring, Meet Fall

March 28, 2007

Campfire Socks
It seems with the wonderful warm weather everyone has been having, some of us in blogland are still stuck in Fall. Kinda spooky, but Grumperina is knitting an autumnal sock, and Minnie just spun up some pretty fall roving into yarn. I think we have created a trend… so what season are you knitting in?

I’m using the Campfire Socks pattern from Cider Moon (I think their website is currently down, at least for me) and Spunky Eclectic’s Super Sport Sock yarn in I Heart Fall. I don’t think I can express how much I love this yarn– it’s delightfully squishy and fun. Don’t fall over or anything, but I must admit I like it even more than the uber-loved Socks that Rock…

Spring may finally be here

Crocus

The weather has been gorgeous, although a tad rainy, and my crocuses are finally blooming. Is Spring here? I sure hope it’s around to stay– that feeling in the air has definitely changed for the better.

I’ve joined A Million Blogs for Peace– please do the same!

In knitting news, I cast on for a new pair of socks.

I’m using Spunky Eclectic’s Sport Weight yarn in the I Heart Fall colorway. They’re so soft and squishy– I love the yarn!

Baby FOs (not for me)

I finished a few baby FOs, but don’t get excited, I’m not pregnant. The first two are for my co-worker’s baby shower which was this past week. Click on the pics to see all the specs.

Here’s the matching socks:

And this one is sort of for me– I finished the baby pinwheel blanket for my hope chest. Hopefully I’ll have a little one to give it so use someday soon.
Finished Pinwheel

They all use cotton ease– I love cotton ease! In fact, I started a Cotton Ease group on flickr, if you share my love of cotton ease and want to pool your pics. I just heard that Michael’s is now carrying the new colors of cotton ease, and I can’t wait to see them in person and see FOs of people who’ve used them!

Other exciting news in the plath house– we just leased a brand new Jeep. We’re a Jeep family– I drive a Jeep Wrangler, dh drives a Cherokee (although we just sold it), and now we have this:
New Jeep
It’s a Jeep Grand Cherokee, and I love it already! It’s been so long since we’ve had something new (both our vehicles were bought used), and it’s so nice to have a little luxury, even if it is leased. :) It has heated seats, a moonroof and remote start. I feel so spoiled! AND we’re actually saving money per month since we just paid off my Jeep.

In fertility news, we had our follow-up appointment at the RE and I was diagnosed with PCOS, so I’ve started taking a medication to control my insulin and hopefully help to shrink my cysts. All our other tests came back normal, so hopefully we can get started on our path. We’re taking a pretty aggressive approach this next month– I’ll be on clomid again, and we’re doing some other things as well. Wish us luck :)

Pinwheel

Pinwheel

Here’s the progress on my pinwheel. Actually, I’m a tad farther now. I knit 8 rows of the dark blue and then switched back to the lighter blue and am going to do a few purl rows. Now I just need to figure out how many purl rows I need to do to prevent curling…

Lost update- It’s getting better and better! I can’t WAIT for next week’s episode already. This season, especially after the winter break they did is fantastic.
To the person who searched to find my blog with the words “horrid temp job” I’m sorry– I’ve definitely been there!
To the person who searched “chucks blue” did you mean Converse All-Stars chucks? Man I loved those shoes. I had two low top pair–one in black and another in burghundy and I wore both pair completely out. I duct taped them up (for decoration, not function) and wrote all over them. Sigh. Those wonderful days of youth. LOL
If you didn’t mean Converse All Star chucks, then you may need to see a doctor if you’re “chucking blue.” Ick.

Thanks L&V sp for the postcard! I definitely needed a little cheer in my mailbox yesterday, and your postcard brightened my day :)

Drop out

March 13, 2007

I feel like a loser.  So excited for Sock Madness, I immediately cast on my socks after downloading the pattern Saturday morning.   I got into the first repeat and just thought ick.  My sock looked like a bad bad bad 80s sweater.  Picture one of Cliff Huxtable’s sweaters– tan with orange and blue.  I couldn’t even bring myself to take a picture, it was that bad.  Trust me, you don’t want to see this monstrosity.  What was I thinking?  Well, I don’t have many solids– only boring boy colors (grey, tan), and I couldn’t justify buying yarn (my Stashalong commitment).  I also just really don’t like mixing two different yarns unless it’s for a heel/toe contrast.  Sigh.  So I’ve conceded.  I’m a dropout.

I have been knitting a bit on my secret project.  I guess I’m ready to talk about it.  It’s my hope chest project– a pinwheel baby blanket out of Cotton Ease.  (You can see some really pretty ones here.)  I’m trying to stay positive, and although some may say it’s bad luck to knit for a baby not yet conceived, I find it helps to keep me thinking positively.  I treat it as my daily meditation and mantra in positive thinking. I’ve already knit a pair of baby socks, as well as two little sweaters and a hat and socks set when I was pregnant before, so I’m just adding to my hope chest. After all, we ARE going to have a baby (see, positive thinking). Sometime. And I may just have an entire chest full of clothes and blankets for whenever he or she arrives, and that’s ok.

Not much to say

March 9, 2007

but I just wanted to post and mention that Lost this week (I just watched it last night) was REALLY good!  So if you’d previously abandoned the show, you just might want to start watching it again.  You can even catch up on ABC’s website :)

Finished Classy Slip Ups

Finished Classy Slip Ups!

And they are finished! Click on the picture for all the details. I experienced a little drama (see below), but they are finished, and all ready to gift this Christmas. I’m so excited to have a gift already lined up for Christmas; now I just have to hold myself back from giving them to the recipient for her birthday.

My drama: in my fiendish knitting over the past few days, while knitting in bed, I reached back (knitting needle in hand) to reposition myself and CRUNCH.
Crunch

Broken needle. Luckily I had a size 1 metal dpn to finish the socks with, but oh how I hate metal dpns! I know people rave and rave about addis and the Knitpicks Options needles, but no no no metal needles for me. Ick! I would prefer plastic over metal any day! (but really I like bamboo the best)

Speaking of metal dpns, I just so happen to be knitting with some metal dpns right now in size 8 (I don’t have bamboo in that size) and I’m hating it! It’s a project I can’t share about yet, so no pics, but I feel like I’m going to lose my stitches everytime I move, and I’m compensating by knitting too tightly. I guess I need to get some bamboo dpns in the middle sizes. All I have are sock sizes, and then a 10 1/2 for felting.

In case you were wondering (I know you probably weren’t, but anyway), the HSG went fine. There were no blockages, and it wasn’t as awful as I expected it to be.

Get ready, Sock Madness starts Saturday!!
