Another week, another pair

Jaywalker Socks

I finished my Jaywalker socks! Boy, if you’ve been reading here lately, you’d think I was just a sock knitting blog. So, in that spirit, I cast on for another pair, of course. This pair may be a Christmas gift. I say may, because it depends on if I have the patience to knit a longer foot than my own. LOL That’s the main reason most of the socks I knit end up for me– I have small feet. However, I’m determined to get a few Christmas gifts out of the way early this year, and I know someone who just loves pink and purple, so perhaps… no promises though.
Classy slip ups

They’re the Classy Slip Ups from Knit Socks! (Knit) in Lisa Souza Sock! Berry Poppins colorway (way too many exclamation points there). The sock yarn is nice and squishy although I have been leaning towards a tighter twist in my sock yarn lately. BUT she just came out with a Hard Twist yarn, though it’s quite a bit thicker. However, I’m really happy with the way these are working up. The pattern is a nice, easy, 4 row repeat, and I think it really works well with the hand-dyed yarn. I’m hoping I can get them finished quickly, as Sock Madness is starting March 10th. I’m a tad nervous, as I’ve never been in a speed knitting competition before. I don’t consider myself a quick knitter!

Ok, I’ve rambled long enough. Marzipan is getting bored.

I’ll let my sock speak for me

I don’t have much to say today, but I did manage to finish one Jaywalker sock, and am a little over halfway done with the match’s cuff.

I’ll let my pictures speak for me today:

Deer in our backyard. This winter has been tough on the animals. We’ve had these guys visiting every night for a week now:

Weekend Knitting

February 19, 2007

A weekend of knitting and movies, and this is what you get:
Finished Monkeys
Click on the picture for all of the details.

Yes, that is our actual wall color.  It’s in the entry way.  It’s kind of funny, because if you watched Top Design this past week, you know that Elizabeth got kicked off because of the color she picked– Acid Green.  Elizabeth, we love acid green in the plath house!
I watched Marie Antoinette and An Inconvenient Truth this past weekend, and knit, knit, knit away the hours of my much-too-short weekend. Marie Antoinette was slow, and I didn’t feel much connection to the characters. It was interesting, as I didn’t really know much about her, but I felt it could have been a much better movie. An Inconvenient Truth, I really enjoyed. Surprising, I found Al Gore funny. I’ve always liked him, but I thought he was great in this movie, and the movie, to me, was inspiring.

Tivo failed me this week, and didn’t tape Lost on Wednesday. We’ve been having a problem with Tivo– it attempts to turn the channel, but it turns it to the wrong channel, and it’s been getting increasingly worse as of late. Eeek. I messed with some of the settings this weekend, and hopefully that takes care of the issue.

Ok, I’ve heard of Bach’s Rescue Remedy before, and never really read much about it, and certainly had never bought it before. After all, it’s a dropper with liquid or a spray. Seems kinda icky. So why didn’t I know about this? Apparantly, they just came out with Bach’s Rescue Remedy Pastilles. Little candies with the same flower essences. Much more convenient! And I’m now in love with Rescue Remedy.

I finished the Monkey socks, but decided another pair of socks was in order, so I cast on for these:
Jaywalker
Jaywalker socks from Magknits. The yarn is from an Ebay seller who doesn’t appear to be selling anymore. I wish she was– I love the way it’s working up!

One finished Monkey

Here is my snow day progress. One repeat in on the second sock. I went to sleep last night with sore hands, and it’s been a long time since that’s happened.
Back at work today. Ugh. No fun. I want to be home knitting! Hopefully, if tivo did it’s job, though, I’ll be able to watch last night’s episode of Lost and curl up with the monkey again. I just can’t stay up until 10 pm to catch it. I’m such an old fart.

Snow Day

February 14, 2007

Boy how I miss those, not working in schools anymore. BUT, I took my own snow day today. We only got about 5 inches of new snow overnight, but the one inch we got during the day yesterday made my evening commute bloat from the normal 50 minutes to 2 1/2 hours. Eeek. I just couldn’t handle a 2 1/2 hour commute this morning, so I called in.

I planned on lots of nice talk show watching with my monkey socks, but the president decided to give a speech and there were Chrysler layoffs which interrupted normal programming, and Jason called (he’s still out of town) to tell me that he had ordered flowers for me, delivered to my work. Oops. He never orders me flowers. Never ever. He’s brought me flowers on a handful of occasions, but never had them delivered. I can’t even remember him ever giving me anything for Valentine’s Day. So this hasn’t exactly worked out how I had hoped. Anyway, the pooch is extremely happy someone’s home to keep her company and let her romp around in the snow like the snow puppy she is. She’s a treat to watch while she bounds around in the white stuff.

An then of course, since I’m home in the daylight (a rarity except on the weekends!), I see all the dust and pet fur rolling along the hardwood floors, and the pile of laundry in the corner, so I feel the urge to clean. Sigh. I just can’t get that knitting done! I did manage to work a bit on my Monkeys though. Here was my progress as of this morning:
Monkey progress
I’m a bit farther now. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have a pic of my snow day progress :) I’m off to continue watching reruns of the first season of Project Runway. Yeah, I watched it the first time around, but it’s still fun to watch in rerun, too. I just love love love Jay’s designs.

Lazy Weekend

February 12, 2007

Finished Regia 6 socks

Originally uploaded by plath.

I had a lazy weekend, but I did get a lot accomplished. Jason is out of town (the lucky duck has been in California for the past week and is now in Colorado), so it was just me and the crazy animals to ourselves this weekend. I finished the Regia 6 shortie socks, and then I came to problem of finding a new project to start on.

I’m not one of those cast on a million projects knitters. *Usually* once I have a project to work on, I stick with it. Now there is the rare occasion when I get bored with a project, set it aside and work on something else (enter the fate of this brown raglan, still withering away in my basket), but I usually don’t have mass quantities of projects on the needles at one time. So, I don’t have another project waiting in the wings, usually, after I cast off from the last. Therefore, there’s a little down time between projects as I pick the next perfect pattern. It stresses me out a little, trying to find that project that will be just right. I’ve been wanting to knit up a vest of some sort for work, and have thought about the Leftovers vest from Knitty, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to tackle a bigger project yet… so of course I thought socks (again). One of the things that hinders my ability to just cast on a pair of socks from the nice yarn stash is the fact that they’re all skeined, and I have to lug out the ball winder and swift, set everything up, pull over a little table (because most of our tables are too thick for the ballwinder), and then do up the whole process for one measly skein of yarn. So, I decided to wind up a few of my favorite sock yarn skeins to make it easier for a quick cast on the next time I’m craving sock knitting.
Sunday winding
Here’s what I ended up with:
Sock yarn winding party
Details here about the different yarns.

Then, after perusing my sock binder, I cast on for my next pair:

New Monkeys
Yarn: Vesper merino sock yarn in Knit & Tonic colorway
Pattern: Monkey socks
